Timeless TASK
“the Tasking Tasks”
The first word of the day, that strikes
a fear, with a solution if questioned, “How to manage if I don’t record and
plan it?”
What is task? Cambridge dictionary swerves
the meaning in a style with paradigm “a
piece of work to be done, especially one done regularly, unwillingly,
or with difficulty”. Categorizing the three,
- Regularly – the linear progress of the repetitiveness
- Unwillingly – In today’s world this synonym is sporadic by its colloquial meaning
- Difficulty – The one that sets exponential growth that many doesn’t want to foray
Time is always scarce, for the best unacceptable
unknown reasons, which we always defend with. The striking hierarchy resemblance can be seen throughout the entire cycle through
entire life span.
The first reason from best of worst, is
become blame game played by defensive act and pointing elsewhere for no value
of own. I had a landlord who switches off
window air-conditioner stating it’s raining in Mumbai and those cold winds are
passing by Middle East. This is a real time avatar.

When the sun was shining bright, a
colleague of mine popped saying, he was too glad to have all work completed. The definition of work here refers to
completion of an act without validation.
The smiley face, at receiving phone
calls and mails from Client, on the work, raised to lines of worries filling
the forehead of him. From everywhere to
nowhere, was the situation. The work is
sounded inside from him partially and then to defensive justification. “The work” was not over and needed several
checks of KPI.
The situation started more discomfort
in seconds. “The focus lost, so does the status of mind” – Focuso-birium.
Clearing my throat I raised the
following:
“Which work is completed? What is the
objective? What was your deliverable? What is the status? When did you
plan? How did you validate on each work
breakdown structure? What was the benchmark?”
Each question unwrapped a series of
probe that later solved the crisis with minimal damage.
All that I say is not lie but is not the fact
Most of us suffer from the syndrome to find
temporary shut solution rather for a permanent close out. Ironically, the success that he termed in the
last example didn’t last. Why?!
The time failed to govern and the systems
in place. The work was completed but not
the task. Lack of clarity clouded the
thoughts because, he claims to record the works in his brain.
I merely see this as Clout ResponsibilityJ.
The work completed did not validate the task. Our works are confident but not with clarity.
Brain doesn’t work on binary or assembly language. The difference between men vs. machine, is the ability to revolutionize with solutions with different thought, the question of scientists continues.
One more
Another interesting occasion, we faced
last 2 months. An Engineer was posted to
a quality focused construction site. Instead
of validating the task or its approach or the parameters required, he started relishing
being an independent in-charge. The
hands to help him was deliberately shooed way.
Sudden is the life turning opposite, was the site quality issues.
The Engineer took easy on the task and
construed task as work. Within few days,
pressure engulfed from other stakeholders.
He did found a reason, “Ask the management (in silence - I don’t know)”
The fear of check chart on assessing a
task, brought the first escapism thought.
If the answer would have been sought instead of working on the relishing
the ego, a loss of 300% of the GP could have been prevented. The issue still continues, with firefighting
on. However, the said Engineer runs
away and get a job with another firm while he was questioned on ineffectiveness
for the project.
I deployed a resource and reverted the
work into productive minimizing the losses, of course, assessing the task orderly.
Ethics
This is what happens, when the
equilibrium is wavy and unclear. Ethics gets
lost. The engineer escaped but wrongly
defining that he has completed the work. Not the task. In today’s world, distractions are more. Quick gain is considered sacred by count and
not by all. Failure is also mistaken as
accomplishment.
But management principles does
not. Right or wrong, effectiveness is
when you manage, the time to deliver and accomplish the objective. 24 hours embraces all. Every seconds ticks……

I questioned the engineer, who claimed he
didn’t know how to solve it bringing in negative impact. He clarified he is incompetent. I recommend the words rings bell to validate
the ability of employee with the quality check with previous organization worked
with.
Lesson to ponder, that I train
Take a piece of paper at start every
day, and:
- get the task listed,
- prioritize
- for each task allocate the time
- the productive requirement must be bench-marked
- end of the day revisit
- Where could have had your excellence sculpted
- Improvise your observations
- Prepare for the next day
Writing records in the platter of mind
cells to retrieve.
